Admissions

REQUIREMENTS 
 Thomas Heyward Academy is a tax-exempt institution with a non-discriminatory admissions policy.

1. A child must be 4 years old before September 1st to enter the K4 Preschool
2. A child must be 5 years old before September 1st to enter the K5 Kindergarten
3. All students are required to have up-to-date South Carolina Immunization Certificates before entering THA
4.

Applicants are required to take an entrance test at the discretion of the Headmaster.  Student acceptance and assignment is the responsibility of the Headmaster or Division Heads.

5. Transfer students will be accepted at the discretion and evaluation of the Headmaster or Division Heads
6. The family must be able to meet the financial requirements of the Academy
7. No student expelled from another school may attend Thomas Heyward Academy.
8. A genuine agreement on the part of the student to comply with the rules and regulations, particularly those regarding dress and conduct, is required

All applications will be taken on a first come-first served basis, after Academy families have had time to register. When classes reach capacity, the Headmaster has the right to admit the most qualified student regardless of their place on the waiting list.

Registration fees hold a student's place if they are promoted.  If a student fails, the Academy is not obligated to take the student back.  The registration feel will not be refunded if a student is not promoted.


    2010 - 2011 FEE SCHEDULE
 
 
  • ENROLLMENT FEE:  $100  Payable at time of acceptance (after testing for Grades K5 - 12).
 
  • TESTING FEE:  $50  Payable at the time of testing.  K4 students do not test.
 
  • BUILDING FUND:  $350 per student.  Payable when student is accepted. Must be paid before student is officially enrolled
 
  • YEARLY START UP FEE:  $300  Includes but not limited to the following:  textbooks, lockers, PSAT Testing, academic lab fees, elementary supply/achievement testing fee, student accident insurance SCISA fees, etc.  This fee is due in full by Wednesday, August 23, 2010Fees not paid by this date will result in your student not receiving textbooks, etc.  Reminders will be in the back-to-school letter sent in July 2010.  It is suggested that you pay along during the summer for the above fees.  If a student loses a textbook they must still pay for that textbook before a new one is issued.  Please do not include in your tuition payment
 
  • ATHLETIC FEE:  $75  For each student per sport played with the exception of cheerleaders and skeet team members - $25 each.  This fee must be paid prior to participation.  Grades 5 - 12.
 
  • WITHDRAWAL FEE:  $250
 
  • RETURNED CHECK FEE:  $35  per check returned for all returned checks.
 
  • CREDIT CARD FEE:  2.9% of total charged per charge.
 
  • LATE FEE:  $25  Tuition is due by the 15th of each month.  Each tuition account will incur a late fee of $25 for payments received after the end of each month - no exceptions.
 
  • TUITION:  $4,380 per year.  1 yearly payment by August 15, 2010 or 
                    $365 per month for 12 months due by the 15th of each month (June - May) or 
                    $490 per month for 8 months (September - April and $460 for May 2011) due by the 15th of each month 
                    (9 monthly payments are only allowed for new students enrolling after July of 2011 and for the first year of enrollment only). 

    NOTE:  If a family has more than 2 children, the tuition will be $20 less per month for the third child.  
                Fourth child on receives free tuition - only tuition - all other fees apply.  
                All payments are due by the 15th of each month and all tuition accounts (seniors by May 5, 2011) must be cleared by May 15, 2011.
                Bills are not sent and students will be suspended if tuition accounts are overdue.
  Copies of Birth Certificate, current and correct SC Immunization Form, and Social Security Number must be on file in the school office before school starts.
